You can find us in the Hotel Royal Orchid, below the pool area and above the area with the sun chairs, directly at the sea. A yellow building easily recognized as a diving center.
You can also reach us from the neighbou rHotel Roca Mar on the way to the sea, follow the steps downwards and go to the left, directly along the sea.

- The diving center's philosophie -

Individual diving - away from the mass-tourism
We run our diving base in a flexible but well-organized way.
We of course always try to keep groups well thought-out and small, this means adapted to the diving experience and the wishes of our divers. The result is groups of at most five persons per dive guide.
All our dive guides set a high value on well guided nature-experience-dives - according to the motto "Only the three-dimensional look around you during the dive, in a three-dimensional space, lets you experience the "the full offer" !

Respect your environment completely under and beyond the sea and respect the existence of all creatures ("The cradle of life") - Don't forget; your are a guest !
The most important skill for environmentally friendly diving is keeping the correct buoyancy at any time.

Opening and Dive hours

Our Diving Center are 6 days a week open from 9.00 – 16.30 ( Thursday closed ! )

For dives accompanied by one of our guides we meet every day at 9h30 and at 13h30

Experienced divers which do not want a guided dive can, of course, dive the whole day without limits

The ATALAIA DIVING CENTER is situated adjacent to the Underwater Natural Park, directly at the sea, in the “Lido-Area” of the Hotel Roca Mar, in the heart of Caniço de Baixo, and thus can be reached quickly from almost all hotels. Caniço de Baixo is at the south-eastern coast of Madeira, about 12km from the capital Funchal.

The underwater fauna and flora shows a strong influence from the tropics. Therefore trigger-, parrot-, puffer- and trumpet-fish, as well as sandy areas with garden eels are normal parts of the environment.
Big fish can also be encountered, for instance barracudas, jacks, sting rays and of course our big groupers.
With some luck, one can even see manta rays directly at our house reef.
Since 2003, we even sometimes delight in seeing a monk seal during our dives, Europe’s rarest and most endangered mammal.

Our beautiful house reef is in front of the base and can easily be reached via several different entries. The large reefs, from the marvellous Canyon Reef to elongated rock formations with many cracks and small caves, have something to offer for everybody.
Our large cave, part of the house reef, rounds of the variety of possible experiences. Depth at the house reef varies from 3 to 30 metres.

...and of course diving in the beautiful and unforgettable nature reserve of Garajau, with its unbelievably rich fish life and the famous tame groupers...
...reached in only 10 minutes by rubber dinghy...

Night dives and cave dives are, of course, possible any time. If you do not have your own torch you can hire one.
